~~~~~~~~~~~~In honor of CAPTAIN HEINZ KURT ROESCH~~~~~~~~~~~ 2 Jan 1940~14 Sept 1971....US Army 10th Special Forces MACV-SOG Task Force advisory element #1 Heinz Kurt Roesch was born in Germany on 2 jan 1940, by the time he was a teenager he knew he didnt want to live under Communist rule in now East Germany so at seventeen years old he and others escaped to west Germany by tunneling under the Berlin wall.As a young man he made his way to Canada then to Troy, NY in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. Heinz stayed with his uncle ERNEST BOEHME in Troy an earlier immigrant form his homeland Germany..For someone who refused to live under the boot heel of communists without FREEDOM By way directly going to the Pentagon he joined the US ARMY to fight communism.Because of his heritage of being German ,his linguists and his high intelligence he became a valuable part of the 10th special forces group in Bad Tolz,Germany south of Munich. As Sgt. Heinz Roesch became an intricate part of European Intelligence as an expert at gathering intel. in covert operations and analysis he wanted to serve the USA in Viet Nam and command an infantry unit. To attain this goal he applied for OCS ( officers candidate school ) in Ft. Benning Ga. with his outstanding leadership skills ,his tactical knowledge and patriotism he excelled in every course he attended..On 1 aug. 1967 he graduated and became an officer in the US army. Captain Heinz Roesch also became a US citizen which by far was his proudest moment. Up until this time he was a alien from a communist country with a top ranked security clearance, not a common distinction . Now according to his close friend and comrade Greg Sefton ( OCS graduate 75th co.1 aug 1967 ) Heinz felt an infantry officer should be in combat when his country was at war ..Even though his talents were needed in Europe ,as a true warrior he was finally able after volunteering many times to serve his country in Viet Nam. As a member of the elite SF MACV-SOG (military assistance command,Vietnam- studies and observations ) Heinz proudly served 3 tours in Viet Nam in 7 campaigns accumulated 1 silver sar,3 bronze stars with four oakleaf clusters with devices for valor,The vietnamese gallantry cross,2 purple hearts,and the national defense medal. The details of how Capt. Roesch met his death that day in Quang Nam province,south Viet Nam is not know but his body was recovered by his comrades from the battlefield.He was admired and respected for his leadership and for putting his mens safety before his own.Much of his combat exploits in MACV-SOG and MIKE FORCE ( mobile strike force command ) which was a force multiplier training persecuted christian hmong,degars, and montegnard vietnamese to fight the communists was classified and is part of the collective memories of his comrades....Capt. Heinze Roesch was recently nominated by his good friend and comrade Greg Sefton to be inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame at the national infantry museum at Ft Benning ,Ga....At Death Heinz was laid to rest with honor in his beloved Germany at his duty station in Bad Tolz, Germany,the then home of the 10th special forces group..AT the time of his death Heinz was survived by his loving wife Doris Von Sierakowski Roesch ,A son Stefan who passed in 2006 in Germany and his daughter Astrid Roesch Peck and three grandchildren...Thank you Heinz for your sacrifice and patriotism to our country and may you rest in peace for eternity.....Thank you Astrid Roesch Peck and Greg Sefton for sharing details Heinz life and legacy.
