In honor of Robin Williams, I think Ill watch the Fisher King again. Its always felt like some kind of metaphor for his unseen and unspoken inner life. Depression, addiction are insidious and so deeply misunderstood by our culture. There is still so much stigma. Robin took his gifts and opened the door for so many of us who suffer in this way to be real about it…to talk openly about the struggles and the suffering. He also brought hope, joy and compassion to others who were suffering. Another heartbreaking and tragic loss, yet, I know and deeply understand, what its like to want to be free from that kind of pain, once and for all…..Im grateful everyday that I have not given up…. one day at a time….
