In honor of the brave men and women who ran into those burning buildings on 9/11 and those who do it every day. God bless you! #remember911 -------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel 3: 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. The Maltese Cross has come to be known as the symbol of firefighters (see pic in comments). The way its typically drawn now, its hard to tell its a cross, but it is. Ever wonder the history behind it? Well here it is. In the 1500s, there was an order of knights, the Knights of St. John, on the Isle of Malta. Malta is an island nation located in the Mediterranean Sea. The knights participated in the fight against a group of Muslims called the Saracens to regain control of Jerusalem. The Saracens used a cruel weapon which involved throwing bottles filled with a highly flammable liquid into the ranks of the Crusaders, followed by flaming torches. Many of the Knights of St. John were burned alive, and others risked their own lives to save their brothers from dying a painful, fiery death. Some, in putting out the flames of their brothers, would themselves be engulfed and lose their own life. These knights were much like todays brave firefighters, who willingly rush into the flames at their own peril to save another. That bravery was painfully displayed on 9/11 when 343 New York firefighters lost their lives running into burning buildings, while everyone else was running out. God Bless those brave knights. In the book of Daniel, we see these Hebrew boys facing their own fiery trial. As they were thrown into the fiery furnace, perhaps there were some of their closest friends who stood by wishing they could do something to help them. But all failed to summon the courage to risk it all and go in to save them...except One. There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, even when times get tough and the flames get hot. King Nebuchadnezzar looked in expecting to see the charred remains of those boys, but instead he saw 4 men loose, and one of them, he exclaimed, looked like the Son of God. You see, just like those boys, we too have a friend that sees us in the burning building of our lives, our circumstances, our hurts, or our habits. And when no one else can or will come in and save us, JESUS WILL! In fact, He already has. One day Jesus rushed into a burning building while everyone was running out; Peter ran out, John ran out, everyone ran out. He dowsed the flames of sin that was consuming us, and took them on Himself, and He died on the Cross. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends So when you are facing the fiery furnaces in your life, and you will, know that Jesus will take you through the fire. Remember the Maltese cross and the Savior that died on it for you.
