In hope [Abraham] believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, So shall your offspring be (Romans 4:18, English Standard Version). Have you ever considered how irresponsible, impossible, and irrational Abrahams faith was to believe that he and Sarah would give birth to a son in their old age? Yet Abraham clung determinedly to his faith in God. Many people struggle with faith. Some are afraid to believe even the specific promises of God written in the Bible. Others have a misplaced faith, based on their wild imagination or even the bad pizza they ate the night before! Therefore, those who wish to be reasonable are sometimes reluctant to exercise a daring faith in God. Faith is audacious, but faith need not be ridiculous. How can we know the difference? Truly, it is the object of our faith. Is our faith in simply what we want to come true, what we think will come true, what we expect to come true - or is our faith founded in God? If our faith is founded on past experiences, we may be let down - things change. If our faith is founded on our hopes and dreams, we have only hope in which to hope. But if we ground our faith in the promises of Gods Word, the reliability of Gods unchanging nature, and the knowledge we gain from a close relationship with God, we can be confident because of our faith is founded in God. How can you demonstrate a greater faith in God this week?
