In just over one week, my parents will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. June 12th, 1964 they exchanged their wedding vows. Good times and rough times, theyve still managed to raise 3 kids, kept a roof over our heads as we grew up, put clothes on our backs and get us thru school. Growing up in Endy, I remember every summer my dad had a garden. Mom would can green beans, tomatoes and Silver Queen Corn. Pop was a hell of a tater farmer, he believed in his potatoes, hell a dinner plate wasnt a dinner plate unless there were home grown taters on it. Mashed, stewed, fried or baked there better be some sort of tater on that plate. Moms home made biscuits were the bomb. Right out the oven, blessm with jelly or butter, it didnt matter, they were perfect either way. The textile industry provided their main income. Pop still talks about it, American Efird Mills that would later become Albemarle Spinning. To this day, I believe you could start a new mill, put my mom or dad in charge of it and theyd have it running in no time. Between now and June 12th, Ill share more mom n pop stuff. Good night .
