In late December 2013, the Hamilton Police Service Division Three Detectives began an investigation after concerns were brought forward by the Gilkson Community Council/Youth soccer organization in regards to the discovery of financial irregularities. Gilkson Community Council is a non-profit organization that provides a youth soccer program on the west Hamilton Mountain for over 1,100 players and an extended reach of over 4,600 people in the community. Money raised through registration and fundraising is used towards park improvements and various events and assistance within the Gilkson community. Hamilton Police commenced a lengthy investigation into the reported financial irregularities in excess of $50,000.00 and as a result charges have been laid against the former president of the soccer council.
