In light of recent online fraud activity reported to Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Scott H. Jenkins reminds consumers to be wary of offers that sound too good to be true or transactions that require an additional step. As a rule, a scam operator selects a victim, gains their confidence by telling a believable story, asks for their help or promises them money or goods, and asks them to show “good faith” by producing cash in advance for the promised goods or money.
