In light of the Ferguson ruling tonight, I reflect back on being - TopicsExpress

In light of the Ferguson ruling tonight, I reflect back on being in elementary school and watching the footage of MLK Jr. giving his famous speech in Washington D.C. Seeing the grass in front of the Lincoln Memorial filled with some of the 250,000 supporters who marched with Dr. King was absolutely awe-inspiring. It showed the power people have when they come together in a unified front against injustice. In some ways MLK Jr.s dream has been fulfilled and in other ways it hasnt. The current state of our country is complicated to say the least and many feel like our government is failing them. I dont know what we can do to fix many of the problems we have but I do know that anger is not productive unless it is channeled appropriately. Rioting and looting wont solve anything, but you probably already knew that. Facebook posts wont do anything either [cue the irony]. I encourage anyone who is upset about anything which is important to them to start talking about it. We have been conditioned as a society to keep our mouths shut because its not polite to talk about politics or religion. This mentality is making us despondent and apathetic about the things that really matter. Disagreements can be good if they are respectful and productive, remember that. The future truly is in our hands and if were not talking with each other about how we can make this country better then who will? By the way, MLK Jr.s speech has 6 million views on YouTube and Nicki Minajs Anaconda has 310 million... lets do something about that: https://youtube/watch?v=smEqnnklfYs
