In light of the Mt. Polley tailing pond catastrophe, and given the number of emails I have received from citizens across British Columbia regarding other accidents waiting to happen, were calling on the provincial government to require every mine in the province to undertake an independent engineering report of their tailings storage facilities.The B.C. government has the legislative ability to require these engineering reports be submitted. Furthermore the BC government has the responsibility to ensure that other tailings ponds are not at risk of failure. By analyzing those facilities and publishing the results, they will go a long way towards reassuring British Columbians that their government is looking out for their best interests.
