: In light of the suicide of Robin Williams, I feel we should not overlook this critical insight, which I firmly agree with and have experienced first-hand. Many will try to make the connection that Robin was just unsatisfied with all that this material world brought him in life. While that very well may be true, I feel that it is an immature and ill-thought cop-out to make depression and suicide that simple of an issue. It is not. I have experienced much depression and many suicidal thoughts in my life thus far, even before the crucible of my previous 5 years. I am not trying to simplify depression down to this one cause, but to ignore something as seemingly obvious as this is treading on dangerous ground and ignoring a crucial piece of the extremely mysterious puzzle that is mental health; a piece that can help us all to better understand how to predict, to some extent, at least a portion of those who may be more at risk to these issues than others. This article is a few years old, but is none-the-less just as appropriate on this day, as we mourn the loss of the wonderful man who was Mr. Robin Williams. --- The arts are more dangerous [than other professions] because they require sensitivity to a large extent, he said. If you go too far you can pay a price -- you can be too sensitive to live in this world. cnn/2008/HEALTH/conditions/10/07/creativity.depression/index.html
