In light of todays anniversary, heres my Madman tribute. Having first bought this album when I was 14, it was the first Elton album I ever called my favorite. Nowadays that subject is one of debate, but Tiny Dancer remains my favorite songs of all time. Ive gone through 5 copies of this album total, three of which are pictured here (the bits n pieces and souvenirs that are scattered around my room are the remains of a warped copy I got tricked into ordering online from Canada. The CD version, on the other hand, is the first copy I ever owned, but is now missing its disc because I carelessly left it in a rental car in Montauk. :( Luckily all of its tracks are saved on my iPod. When I was in a mental hospital one winter for suicidal reasons (cause I happened to be that one stupid 15 year-old boy who got too hung up over an ex girlfriend), I had the song Rotten Peaches stuck in my head for days, and had no access to any music until my departure. I even wrote the lyrics down on paper one day out of boredom! Glad to say those days are years away and I can now listen to the song I Think Im Going to Kill Myself with some sense of humor! Anyways, Im sure we all know what makes Madman such a musically advanced album, so to add to that, Id like to say that I also think of it as one of the many special gatefold albums of the early 70s thats full of treasures as soon as you open it. And for me, its one of those albums that Turned a full-blooded city boy into a full-blooded city man. Play on, Elton!
