In my experience, starting a day telling everyone how wonderful they are and how much you like them, while also asserting authority gets a great response and makes for a productive day. I love high school kids most of all, theyre the ones who need the reminder that they can do and be anything. Id much rather be an example and a friend than lord over them like a dictator. They let me ride their skateboards down the sidewalk at the end of the day sometimes, and are wonderfully behaved participants when they are in class. Being around children should remind teachers that there is fun to be had forever, not a miserable experience wrangling a herd of hormonal miscreants. Sure most of my kids have special needs, but when I get to do period coverage for a regular class its a blast.
