In my field (English as a Second Language), we deal with cross-cultural differences all the time and have to explain things about American culture, some of which are actually hard to explain. Examples: Why do we tip? (In Japan, servers get paid a real salary and dont depend on customers; you still get great service.) Why are do-it-yourself stores like Home Depot so popular here? Why are our driver licenses from our state, not our country? But here is one thing thats hard to explain: The Easter Bunny. How is a rabbit and chocolate connected to the resurrection? VERY FUNNY: One of my favorite authors, David Sedaris, tells of an experience in his French class in France in which he tries to explain the Christian Easter celebration, especially in America, where a bunny brings chocolate eggs that this mammal may have laid??? (In France, a BELL brings gifts… ) youtube/watch?v=zRW8yvf_u-Q
