In my life, horses have been everything. I have always loved everything about horses. With age, I have found that while I still love horses, something has gradually changed. Kindness has become my new center and while I know an amazing amount of things about horses, it has occurred to me that I know so little about how to be kind. It seems simple enough both horses and kindness but how is it that I know so little about being kind. It is not that I do not try but there is a lingering uncertainty about both but especially about kindness. Looking into this uncertainty, I was lead to the discovery that the root of this lingering doubt is exactly what kindnesss nature is. My love affair with both horses and kindness has found a dressage in my heart which is fresh. Everyday and every way, when I work with horses and people, my kindness by its nature tries to discover anew a better path. This is not to assert my success at either kindness or horses but rather to share with those who read this that the nature of both is a lingering uncertainty. Good dressage is not from knowing but a process of constantly questioning. It is a road to kindness and compassion itself and is a path which constantly reflects to confirm what is gentle. The real answer is not the assembly of facts but the connection and heart which learns to apply them. Thus my dressage is never fixed in the object but always alive in its practice. Good dressage never arrives but always journeys from better dressage and kindnesss uncertainty is what fuels the trip.
