In my line of work -- writing books, and the occasional column -- - TopicsExpress

In my line of work -- writing books, and the occasional column -- I continually meet great minds, people with blowtorch brilliance, acuity, sharp perception, intellectual heft, and the ability to clarify complexities and to articulate issues precisely. I thought that I should publicly recognize some of these very bright people who are very active. The list is by no means complete; consider this the first installment (names given in no particular order): Joseph Lelyveld, former executive editor of The New York Times; Shobhaa De, author and columnist; Jairam Ramesh, Congress Party politician; Jyotsna Varma, IAS, of the Asian Development Bank; Amitabh Kant, IAS; Sean Cleary of South Africa; Ambassador Thettalil Sreenivasan of India; Gerson da Cunha, Mumbai gadfly; Nicholas Labuschagne of South Africa; Rahul Singh, Mumbai columnist; Prof. Sumit Ganguly of the University of Indiana, Bloomington; Anil Dharker, columnist and entrepreneur; Rajdeep Sardesai, TV star and author; Preeti Dawra of Singapore; Prof. Akeel Bilgrami of Columbia University; Diana Hamade, Dubai-based lawyer and TV personality; Mira Kamdar, member of the editorial board of The New York Times; Stephen Schlesinger, New York-based writer and thinker; and Mohan Guruswamy of New Delhi. I am privileged to know them.
