In my old neighborhood ,...there were kids and young peoples that would participate in various sports,Baseball,Basketball,Football,Boxing,wrestling,running Track and what ever athletic activity that was available or accessible,...and back in the day we had a Karate Class conducted by Sensei ( Teacher or instructor ) Mr. Sidney A. Bennett! The class was held at three different sites ,at the old Firemans Gym at Navy Pier,Seward Park Gym,and also at the Lower North Center on Oak Street! In its early beginings,the class had some very skilled individuals,such as Fred Anderson aka ( Karate Fred) Tony Jenkins and his Brother Jinks ,Garcias,Johnny Veale,Liberace,the Bennett boys and several,others! One day a Chicago Sun -times reporter was attacked and beaten to a bloody pulp,and Mr. Bennett rushed over and rescued the reporter from a more serious ordeal,..and he was commodities by the Mayor and many social leaders in the city of Chicago! The Karate Class lasted for about a few years!
