In my opinion the role played by Indian Agriculturist is as important as that of a soldier who guards the border of our nation. One is there to guard against the external aggression while the second toils hard to feed the nation. It is pertinent to mention here that our Late Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri realized the importance of the role played by a farmer and raised the slogan Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan. I feel there is a strong correlation between the two & we need to consider both at Par. We ought to assess both strategically and the privileges need to be shared in almost similar manner so that people associated with agriculture feel honoured and empowered. As the population is increasing so is the demand for food but unfortunately agricultural land base is shrinking day by day and the people associated with agriculture are moving away due to myopic vision of our leadership based on short term gains. I strongly feel that the myopic vision & indifferent attitude towards the interest of agriculturists might lead to scarcity of food & drinking water which in turn may create global conflicts. we ought to have a strategic view with regard to agriculture in India. Our Vision- Agriculture First. Our Motto- Kisan ki suruksha Desh ki Prarthmikta. Our Role • Encouragement & introduction to collective farming. • Shift from gravity based irrigation to engine powered irrigation vis-a-vis other modern techniques. • Yield based crop selection & crop rotation to minimise the surplus and maintain the demand. • Export oriented zones with the control of collective farming cooperations in majority of producing zones. • 40% of produce for the domestic sector and rest for the export sector. • Provision of agricultural loans at subsidised rates to collective groups so as to minimise the burden on the individual. • Encouragement & Re-Introduction of water conservation techniques at village level. Joint mechanism of Locals + Goverment (Bowli with a provision for Lotus stem / fish farming) • Emphasis on Organic farming. • Provision of more and more agricultural and Horticulture specialists to advise the farmers in a strategic manner. • Better privileges for the families of farmers in Education & Job. • Introduction of Special Privilege cards to farmers for shopping . • Setting up of Govt controlled shops in all the panchayats to benefit farmers. • Encourage tribal people for farming, give access to govt land for cultivation only, put a minimum levy. This will push the unruly tribesman towards mainstream. • Total ban on the transfer of agriculture land for other commercial activities / gains. • Procurement prices to be raised strategically.
