In my recent postings on my movie tastes concerning good vs. bad movie musicals, I neglected one category completely. That rare instance when a brilliant stage musical is turned into a brilliant movie musical. I speak of Sweeney Todd. Stephen Sondheim in an interview at the time of its release said it was the only movie of his work that he felt succeeded. Thank you Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. BTW, my initial post was a list of movies that I felt were better than their Broadway cousins or an improvement.
