In my school, EMILIMA PRIMARY(we dnt hav a school motto or vision) A pupil who attempted to wear shoes to my school would feel so ridiculous s/he would remove them before reaching class. It was normal to be barefoot and odd to have shoes. Once in a while a pupil who had acquired a new pair of DH or Romario shoes would wear them to school – and we would admire them, but only for a day or two before his/her toes itched for the more familiar murram.some like Stellar Maurice attempted to the umoja slipers but their feet were bigger n surpased the size of the slippers My father’s was the only shoe brush owner around. I remember how I would fondly polish his shoes every Sunday before he went to church, or when he was invited to accompany friends to funerals or more joyous ceremonies like dowry negotiations and payment. As for toothbrushes…well, let’s just say that although I did not have one, I did not walk around with a stinky mouth. There was a shrub called kumupera and a tree called miti mbao whose twigs served both as tooth brushes and toothpaste. We invented Colgate Herbal decades before Colgate-Palmolive!
