In my study of the Psalms I came across this quote in reference to our tendency to ask God to exact vengeance on our enemies. It is by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, pastor, anti-Nazi protester and former concentration camp resident: Gods vengeance did not strike the sinners, but the one sinless man who stood in the sinners place, namely Gods own Son, Jesus Christ bore the wrath of God. So, you and I need to remember this before we ask God to Get that sinner for us...as we are that sinner!
