In other news: I wanted to give a quick shout out to those of you who have been mentioning my name in recent threads, inquiries, conversations regarding emerging artists, curators, performers, persons of color, Chicago-based creatives, etc worth learning more about. It means a great deal to me knowing that my practice has been on the minds of my peers and colleagues all of whom, I deeply respect and admire. So, THANK YOU! Please know that I dont take the recognition lightly and although Ive been UNUSUALLY quiet on the social media front, I have been working and working hard. Recent updates include: 1.) For the past 7 weeks I have been diligently working as a Counselor with TRACE (Teens Re-Imagining Art, Community, + Environment) in the West Pullman area of Chicago on Creative Activism through performative practices. Although it had been a demanding position, (a lot to cram in 6 weeks) the work is not over. I am working closely with my supervisor to actively strategize new ways to give Chicago youth a voice and agency in the city. It has been such a blessing to be in a position where my interests in education, young people, and performance/art have intersected. The skills I have developed during my time here and the new family Ive adopted has ignited a pivotal turning point in my practice, that is nothing short of amazing. 2.) My position with TRACE led to another opportunity working with young people and the arts. I am happy to announce that I will be assistant teaching in the Fall! More on this soon. 3.) Im still at the MCA. And theyre working me hard, which is awesome. I feel so grateful for the opportunity to learn more about curatorial practices at the institutional level. There is a lot of exciting programming and exhibitions coming the the museum, that are not to be missed! 4.) Ive been offered a solo exhibition tentatively scheduled for 2015. 5.) Opening Friday, August 22nd at Chicago Artists Coalition, my most recent curatorial project The Square Root of Pi(e) will be coming to you all soon featuring artists Rami George Dan Paz and Jenyu Wang. Yall will definitely want to be there because its going to be absolutely wild. Please stay tuned for more details on items 1, 2, 4 and 5. Yours truly, Alexandria
