In our erroneous belief that something inside us is broken or incomplete or needs correction, we become fanatic about self- improvement. This inner belief takes us to all sorts of practitioners and experts who make a living offering every manner of fascinating diets, pills, potions, prayers, and therapies. The biggest personal shift happens the day we discover that there is nothing “wrong” with us. Yes, we still have our so-called “flaws”, but deep within, we are whole. The desire to “fix” comes from a noble intention to help, heal, and serve. It seems very simple and logical – something is not right, so something needs to be fixed. No matter what you are going through in your life – it is NOT YOUR “FAULT”. You are not a faulty or broken piece – nor a cosmic reject (like export reject). There is nothing bad, unlovable or shameful about you. You are a ‘whole’ human being going through some challenges and dealing with some painful situations. Those situations and challenges are simply a part of human life. That is how humans learn important lessons of life. There is nothing ‘personal’ about it; it is a ‘universal’ phenomenon. Our symptoms and negative behaviors don’t want to be fixed, they want to be heard and understood. They want to find expression. They want to be honored and explored in their complexity, and in their divinity. The very assumption that ‘we need to be fixed’ is the quickest way to stop our healing process, as it keeps us locked in our unwanted behaviors or symptoms. Remembering our wholeness, even in the face of our greatest challenges and ailments, begins the healing process. Whether you are working on yourself, working with clients, or trying to better support the people in your life, letting go of the “FIX” mentality is a pre-requisite for deep and lasting healing of any kind. The best way to “fix” any challenge is simple: Don’t try to fix it. Instead develop skills to access your intuition, engage with your clients (and yourself) in a meaningful way, and walk confidently with others in their healing journey.
