In our moments of solidarity, mourning and reflection, let us also pay tribute to the brave cartoonists and satirists of the Muslim world who have also shown tremendous courage speaking out against tyranny. In 2011, Ali Farzat, renowned Syrian cartoonist, founder of Syrias satirical weekly Ad Domari (the Lamp Lighter), and head of the Arab Cartoonists Association, was attacked by Assads militia and his hands broken. Ali Farzat was awarded the Sakharov prize for Freedom of Thought later that year. He now lives in exile in Kuwait. theguardian/commentisfree/video/2012/jun/21/drawing-syria-revolution-ali-farzat-video
