In partnership with the Vernon Area Public Library, we are pleased to host one of the most critically acclaimed Indian dance companies in the United States, Natya Dance Theatre, for a free performance on Sunday, January 25, at 2 p.m. in the West Auditorium at Stevenson High School. Natya Dance Theatre’s “Timeless Tales” program brings graceful dancers, splendid costumes, dynamic movement, and sculpturesque poses to their contemporary interpretations of the South Indian dance-theater tradition of Bharata Natyam. Their performances combine three aspects of dance—nritta (pure dance), nritya (expressional dance), and natya (drama)—to create artistic and spiritual experiences for audiences of all ages. Under the artistic leadership of Hema Rajagopalan, Natya Dance Theatre is Chicagos longest-running dance company rooted in the Indian dance-theater tradition of Bharata Natyam.
