In recent generations scientific knowledge has come to see what is known in Torah and Chassidus, that even what a one-day old baby sees and hears impacts him when he gets older. For this reason in Jewish home parents make sure the baby kisses the mezuza on the doorpost of their room before going to sleep. In the mezuza, it is written שמע ישראל ה אלוקינו ה אחד. This causes it to be ingrained in the child that ה אחד is protecting him and everything in his room (as it says in the Zohar that the mezuza protects all the people in the home, even when they leave their house).
