In regards to the Lincoln Park giveaway, City Manager Charlie - TopicsExpress

In regards to the Lincoln Park giveaway, City Manager Charlie Cabler said Monday that commissioners would not make any decisions about the park’s future until they’ve heard from the community. The city used Lincoln Park as leverage to keep the university in its current location. About a year ago there had been debate about relocating the park if the university could not secure enough land for future growth. Commissioners approved the property as a potential gift if the university stayed in downtown. In return for gifting the park land to the university, UTB President Juliet V. Garcia has said the school would give the city $6 million for the cost of moving the park somewhere else. But Cabler said any more decisions would be taken with the public’s knowledge. “I know that we are not going to discuss it in executive session,” Cabler said of tonight’s meeting. “We know the interest in Lincoln Park. When Lincoln Park is to be is discussed, it’ll be in general session before the public.” At that time, Cabler said, the community should come forth and give information for commissioners to consider.
