In relation to my last post, I must address (again) the assertion that prayer can be beneficial. (It gives comfort. Some feel physically better. It cant hurt.) Lets honestly examine prayer...as one commenter said: Leaving it in Gods hands. Leaving it in Gods hands requires no petitions, as God is already in control. In fact, if His Will Be Done, the outcome is already a foregone conclusion, and any prayers outside of those boundaries will actually alter Gods perfect will. (And if its perfect, why would we alter it?) On the other hand, if Gods plan includes holding the answers/solutions hostage until the proper petitions are offered up, this would make God a monster: a being whod consciously withhold help until his praise needs had been satisfied. A child dying of cancer would simply have to remain unassisted until the proper prayer protocols had been met. This isnt love, benevolence, justice or behavior worthy of worship. Meanwhile, human solutions are be providing the true answers as the prayers and platitudes fly. Believing in prayer only means youre willing to embrace a fantasy instead of truly understanding things like the bodys own healing mechanisms, modern medicine and the placebo effect. Prayer actually gets in the way of the true solutions, and in the year 2014, its time we engage with the real world and stop shouting to the sky. -Seth
