In reply to a debate on the NHS and how it effects Scotland firstly I am astounded people still deny privatisation is happening. There is a huge difference in surgeries being moved to private hospitals, to reduce waiting times in busy periods, and the full privatisation programme going on in the NHS. Who are these private companies you may ask... Shall I list a few: Virgin Care uk Circle Netcare PWC United health group McKinsey and company Atos Alliance medical Fresenius Inhealth Interhealth Nations healthcare Partnership health group Spire healthcare Siemens ...to name just a few! Is this privatisation even a bad thing? Well in the US they actually pay twice as much GDP (17.4%) compared to the UKs 9.8% (2009). Even then 1/5 people are uninsured and uncovered in America. Even worse than that is around 30-40% of the US healthcare budget goes on administration costs compared to only 6% in UK prior to these changes! In Scotland our funding is based on what England spends, that means if the NHS itself takes on a reduced roll or is disbanded (like 47% of English Drs believed would happen in 5 years) then the Scottish NHS will become unaffordable and a ruin of what it is today. Do your research as this does effect your vote in only a few weeks. Id recommend starting here: youtu.be/Cz5dl9fhj7o
