In response to a seiche event that occurred on Sept. 4 on Lake Superior, near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the International Joint Commission (IJC) issued the article, They Come in Waves: Seiches and a Type of Tsunami Affect the Great Lakes. Check out the IJC article below in which Eric Anderson, NOAA GLERLs hydrodynamic modeler, shares his expertise on the drivers causing seiches. Dr. Anderson also discusses the role that NOAAs Great Lakes Coastal Forecasting System plays in predicting seiche events (glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/).
