In response to an earlier post suggesting the abandonment of wearing the poppy. I can understand the resentment of those stealing a red badge to hide their hypocrisy whilst perusing wars which add to misery but I object to other agendas treating the symbol of support as something to beat the establishment with. The core value is support for the welfare of those who need it. It contributes to awareness and provides fund raising work for those who have served, many without involvement in contemporary actions who need help. Using the poppy to bolster the establishment or to protest against the establishment is equally wrong. Ownership of remembrance and creating a caring a community for those who need help does not belong to the establishment but everyone. Life & history is what we are made of. It belongs to the people not those who choose to tell us what it is. To quote Billy Bragg its my flag too and I want it back.
