In rural areas grange halls often serve as the center of the community, providing people a place to gather for holidays, events, and other purposes. Changes in agriculture, better roads and faster cars, have somewhat diminished that role, but the buildings remain and many are still actively used. The George Millican Community Center, Grange #416, probably built about 1895, certainly is. It’s located in Walterville, east of Eugene, founded in 1875, and named after Millican’s son."
