In several remote areas in Egypt equines are a vital means of transportation (taxi) for the people. Mostly they pull metal carts loaded with passengers and sometimes consumer goods. This young donkey is one of these animals who are helping their owners in making a living in one of Mersa Matrouh’s suburbs. Hassan Said (the owner) is a young man (17 years) who owns nothing except this donkey and his small cart. Hassan’s number one concern is the lack of earnings, therefore he overworks his donkey hoping to gain enough money for the living needs by overloading the cart with an unreasonable number of passengers for very long distances, and without offering proper rest to the donkey. Unfortunately this was how the donkey sustained this severe case of tendinitis! When Hassan visited the Brooke clinic in Mersa Matrouh region the donkey was examined and looked after by the Brooke veterinarian for the diagnoses. As part of the treatment the Brooke vet provided the donkey with an anti-inflammatory and a local analgesic. Most importantly the vet advised Hassan to rest the donkey for five days if he wishes to see an improvement. One week later Hassan brought the donkey to the clinic in a follow-up visit and the Brooke vet was happy to see the donkey in a much better condition and responding very well to the treatment.
