In support of CPIM Leader MY Tarigami : WAHID JKDYF ., SR.LEADER JAMMU & KASHMIR DEMOCRATIC YOUTH FEDERATION to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir: . IN RESPONSE TO ARTICLE COMMUNIST OF KULGAM : TARIGAMI SURVIVES DESPITE ALL ODDS PUBLISHED IN RISING KASHMIR Dated 26-December 2014: . On December 26, 2014, an article titled “Why Tarigami Survives despite all odds” written by Rouf Dar appeared in an online paper namely Authint Mail. The article which in its title and opening para pretends to analyze the survival of Tarigami as a politician is infact a mischievous effort to misinterpret and mislead the people regarding M.Y. Tarigami and CPI(M) which has grown into a moderate but effective political force in the state. Tarigami rose by dint of his long and sustained struggle against exploitation, suppression; in-equality, fanaticism of all hues and protection of Kashmiri identity. The article could easily be ignored as it is not based on objective analysis but on unfounded allegations and is the outcome of frustration, malice; bigotry and intolerance. However some points having capacity of mischief and mis-information need to be clarified and explained:- 1. The author while mentioning the killing of Ab Razaq Mir of Jammati-Islami and Ghulam Nabi Dar of National Conference wants the readers to believe in a veiled manner that these two political activists were killed at the behest of Tarigami. Nothing on earth could be more false than this allegation. The writer should have known that Ab Razaq Mir who fought the 1987 election as a MUF candidate was the only MLA of the organization who did not resign till the end. The gunmen who abducted and later killed Mir were the same who attacked a number of political activists including Tarigami. These militants did not killed just Ab Razaq Mir but hundreds of political activists which included a number of legislators and ministers were also put to death as well. What about Wali Mohd Itoo, the father of Sakina Itoo who represented Tarigami’s neighbouring constituency-Noorabad. Ghulam Nabi Dar of NC was a class fellow and friend of Tarigami. He got killed in a grenade attack while addressing a public meeting. If, as the writer also affirms that Tarigami himself had a narrow escape several times when militants attacked him, how could he, himself a victim use the militants for eliminating “imaginary” political rivals. This allegation is totally unrealistic and utter falsehood. 2. The author alleges that Tarigami pursued a policy of selective development in Kulgam. This sounds foolish. The construction of roads, establishment of new offices and institutions like Degree College, fully equipped District Hospital; Fruit Mandi , Polytechnic Institute, Modern Bus Stand; By-Pass Road, establishment of Fish Farms; construction of spacious mini secretariat, sports stadium, renovation of Chowalgam Rest House, re- establishment of PHE Division and a host of other developmental works which could not be done by the former MLAs in five decades are not meant for a particular section, political group or a few privileged persons. Everybody even the animals benefitted from the overall development of Kulgam. 3. The author has brought religion in the politics. Tarigami in CPI(M) has made it crystal clear that they stood for complete religious freedom and respect all shades of faith and belief. People understand it and they voted for CPI(M) for equitable development and effective representation in the state assembly. This is why a sizable section of Tarigami’s supporters are pious muslims, though religion, caste and creed is no bar for a thorough secular party like CPI(M). 4. The most irrational point in the article which brings out the utter ignorance of the writer is to say that “ both the 2008 and 2014 victories (of Tarigami) raised serious doubts about the sanctity and fairness of the elections”. His argument is that till the end Tarigami was trailing when ‘suddenly he was declared the winner’. The writer should have contacted the returning officer, opposite candidate Nazir Ahmad Laway and the counting agents. This is a fact that in both the elections there was neck to neck fight as the Jammaat activists, whose leaders called for the election boycott, voted in favour of Laway in big numbers. The neck to neck fight, however does not mean that the candidate who won by narrow margin was not the winner at all and something was wrong with the election process. In the recent elections, it was Tarigami who lead in the first few rounds while Laway maintained a slender lead till the last round but the last round gave a deciding lead to Tarigami. Laway left the counting hall before the result was declared. Because he was there himself and accepted the defeat. Moreover if Tarigami’s opponents had doubts they could have approached the Election Commission. Even now they can go to the court and ensure justice. If Election Commission was against PDP why did this party win 28 seats? Why did Farooq Andrabi of PDP win his seat by about a hundred votes? 5. The author is wary and afraid of the expansion of communist ideology and calls it “orthodox fanatic ideology”. He even equals it with RSS ideology. This again shows sheer ignorance and ill-will. Communist ideology may or may not spread in Kashmir, it will in no way affect Islam and Kashmiri ethos. It will only ensure clean politics and people friendly good governance. Bengal was ruled by CPIM) for decades together, it neither affected Bengali culture nor its ethos, leave alone Bengali Muslims or Hindus. RSS, the mother of BJP is essentially communal organization and CPI(M) has all along fought against it. It is on record that there has been no communal rite in Bengal during the nearly 30 years CPI(M) lead government. It is hoped that the journals and news papers should write and publish articles with caution. They are expected to be responsible. If they behave in an irresponsible manner, they will lose their credibility, which is neither good for them nor for the readers.. BY WAHID JKDYF .
