In support of continuing to reduce crime in the Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus areas (there has been a 29.2 percent decrease in crime for the area over the last five years), Newtownabbeys’ Crime Prevention Officer, Stuart Gibson, organised a presentation yesterday at Whitewell Church for a local group called Woman Together. The group meet regularly at the church and yesterday, approximately 100 elderly women from the Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus areas attended and as number of the audience had previously been victims of a burglary or scam, advice was given on home safety, doorstep/bogus callers and any scams that are currently trending. A home safety video and an interactive video was also shown which portrayed how easy it is to become a victim of a distraction burglary. A question and answer session took place after the videos were played which provided an opportunity for issues to be addressed and Stuart then provided crime prevention items and leaflets at the end of the session.
