In talking to some perfect specimens here, I realize that people from Fundie cults, cut off from the mainstream currents of news and technology and innovation, sometimes get a hold of some social bad acid. They hear uncontested stories from their pastors and take it as the truth to spread hate against other groups, and I heard one or two amazing assertions. One thing I heard was dracophobia -- hatred of Dungeons & Dragons-players. Dungeons & Dragons was invented in 1974 as an outgrowth of the wargames hobby. In wargames, military conflicts are re-created with playing-pieces and accurate rules of movement by each kind of terrain, sometimes producing a result different from history. One player, Gary Gygax, invented games about fantasy armies, and started working on a game where each player controlled one single character instead of many units. This was a great turning-point, as rules were developed for everything a character might do in a fantasy story, in game sessions that could sometimes go on for years. I mention about the hobby here, where there are some free games to download. Some are just basic or quickstart versions, though. https://facebook/notes/pierre-savoie/roundup-of-free-tabletop-roleplaying-games/10152271393270839 Now, in the early 80s as the hobby took off, some pastors decided to get into the act decrying the game. The earliers I could find was the Rev. R.A. Cotter, speaking in the publications of the Rev. John S. Torrell. Torrell was a particular looney-tune, since he also said the United States secretly signed the surrender documents giving control of the country to the Soviet Union in 1985 at the Reykjavik Summit, and also claimed a conspiracy is tainting all supermarket food to stupefy the American public, and untainted food is sold only in special Conspiracy groceries known to few people... An account of the controversy this caused is here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons_controversies
