In talking to the lovely woman who found Elodie and brought her to SAAP, Bret and I learned this: In the area where she comes from beagles are easily set out for what ever reason. I think mostly because they wont hunt. We have a cabin in a lake community that is quite isolated in a farming area. We find dogs all the time that have been set out. Some in some pretty bad shape and this is the 3rd beagle in less than a year. A farmer knew I was taking dogs to rescues so he called me about this beagle hed been trying to get in for a couple weeks. He was leaving food out for her and finally was able to catch her. I took off work and drove 2 hours to pick her up. I had made arrangements with a local rescue who agreed to take her. When I called them that morning, they were loading up a transport from the local shelter. I picked her up and put her straight in that van in a small pet carrier with about 30 other dogs and that was the last I saw of her. I only had her in my hands for maybe 1/2 hour and I didnt even get a good picture of her. It all happened so fast. She was terrified and I promised her she was going to a safe place to have her babies and she would be all right. I cried as she drove away. I drove back to the cabin where I went looking for 2 other dogs that were set out last Nov as puppies that I have been trying to trap since March when I first learned of them. There was 4 to start out with. I had trapped 2 of them and the other 2 are still at large. We figured they were probably about 8 weeks old when they were set out and now about a year old. Somehow the 4 of them survived the horrible winter we had and are still surviving. For me, the rescue never ends. Im glad to do it. I know I cant save them all, but I can save the ones I see. I know Elodie and her pups will have a good life and that is good enough for me. This video says it all - she is happy and carefree. We are forever grateful to Lisa and so thankful to have her and her babies safe with us. ❤️
