In terms of politics, China was ruled in short spurts called dynasties where the most important one was the Zhou Dynasty which introduced the Mandate of Heaven which gave justification through God. But, economically Chinese settlers had to supply their own goods, because it was surrounded by natural barriers. Chinese religion kept family very close, and their supreme god was named Shang Di. Society was sharply divided between nobles, high ranking people and peasants, low ranking people. Chinese settlers were very smart, though they took a while to develop writing. The first dynasty to have writing was the Shang Dynasty. The oldest city, Anyang, was built in the woods from wood. Also, Chinese people are responsible for the chariot, roads, canals, and blast furnaces. The environment makes China isolated. To the north, they have the Gobi desert. To the south, they have the Himalayas. To the east, they have the Pacific Ocean and to the west they have the Taklaman desert and the Plateau of Tibet.
