In the 16th century the pentecostal movement, in its ever insidious perpetual bid to promote subjective experience and simultaneously demote the sufficiency and authority of Scripture, had a sectarian war cry which was: The Spirit! The Spirit! They must have undoubtedly assumed that to bellow these words like a mantra reinforced the validity of absurd claims contrary to sound doctrine.
