In the A grade men’s competition Cellar Crows were 7-4 winners in a high scoring match. Ben Hawken’s return after injury strengthened Cellar’s mid-field and allowed them to dominate the match. Goal-scorers: Cellars – Mitch McGlashan 2, Ryan Edwards, Craig Kelly, Rodney Ross, Graeme Thompson, Kobi. Magpies –Andrew Bourke, Nathan Munday, Andrew Wright 2. Best and Fairest: Cellars – Ben Hawken, Jason Kennedy. Magpies – Nathan Munday, Andrew Wright. Despite only having nine players take the field, Rovers were able to defeat Marist 3-0. Jeremy Huk was the stand-out for Rovers scoring a hat-trick of goals and also picking up maximum points from both umpires. Best and Fairest: Rovers – Jeremy Huk, Ian Westcott. Marist – Scott Allen, Luke Hodges. In the A grade women’s competition a depleted Magpies side took the field against Middleton and were able to gain the upper hand and win the match 3-1. Middleton scored early through with a goal by a determined Tamara Fagan and were able to hold Magpies out for some time due to the goal-keeping of Amy Thornbury. However, Magpies played a smart short-passing game and were able to score three times through Janelle Thompson 2 and Syann Allen. The speed of Niamh Dixon and Syann Allen ensured some exciting attacking raids from both teams. Best and Fairest: Magpies – Codie Wakefield, Syann Allen, Janelle Thompson. Middleton – Niamh Dixon, Monique Dixon, Emily Dean. Cubs played an impressive team game of hockey defeating Cellar Crows 6-1. The Cubs forwards used a short-passing game and used their width well to create opportunities in the circle which they were able to convert. Rochelle Smith was superb at full-back for Rovers with Cass Hill having her usual skilful game for Cellars. Goal-scorers: Cubs – Teagan Lundy-Stern 2, Jane Mattiske 2, Jane Grosvenor, Marcia Scally. Cellars – Cass Hill. Best and Fairest: Cubs – Emma Potts, Jane Mattiske, Jane Grosvenor, Teagan Lundy-Stern. Cellars – Cass Hill. In the B grade men’s competition Magpies Academy were too strong for a depleted Rovers Gorillas side winning 8-1. Harry Williams was on fire in the circle netting a hat-trick of goals and picking up six best and fairest points. Goal-scorers: Magpies – Harry Williams 3, Charlie Umbers 2, Andrew Rice, Noel Johnstone, Angus Arndell. Rovers – Mitch Ward. Best and Fairest: Magpies – Harry Williams, Charlie Umbers. Rovers – Mitch Ward, Jordan Clark. Middleton played a strong match to defeat Cellar Crows 3-1. Luke Hodges and Rodney Ross were impressive for their respective sides throughout the game. Goal-scorers: Middleton – Luke Hodges 2, Scott Allen. Cellars – Anthony Locke. Best and Fairest: Middleton – Luke Hodges, Gordon McIntosh. Cellars – Jason Thomson, Rodney Ross, Andrew Smith. Magpies Black were too strong for fellow club-mates Magpies White winning the match 6-0. Cooper Byrnes was a stand-out player for the losing White side. Goal-scorers: Black – Thomas Woods 3, William Cassell, Dylan Wakefield, Liam Wakefield. Best and Fairest: Black – Thomas Woods. White – Cooper Byrnes, Cooper Wakeman. In the B grade women’s competition Marist edged out Rovers 1-0 in a tight match. Leanne Miles showed great leadership to guide her side to victory playing an impressive game and also scoring the only goal. Best and Fairest: Marist – Leanne Miles, Rachel Rice, Sarah Job. Rovers – Sami Afele, Katie Healey, M’Lissa Ross. Cellar Crows Black and Cellar Crows Aqua played a tight 1-1 draw. Lyndal Matthews played her usual strong game and was quite impressive throughout the match. Goal-scorers: Black – Michelle Skinner. Aqua – Lucy Blackstock. Best and Fairest: Black – Lyndal Matthews. Aqua – Tara Fisher, Lucy Blackstock, Emily Blackstock, Maddison Thomson. Middleton Pink and Middleton Eagles fought hard in their match with neither side able to capitalise on opportunities in the circle resulting in a 0-0 draw. Amanda Draper and Sharnie Besant worked hard for their respective sides doing a mountain of running. Best and Fairest: Pink – Amanda Draper, Jodie Dunn, Sue McGrath, Ally Smith. Eagles – Sharnie Besant.
