In the BC communities of Prince George and Burns Lake, two sawmills exploded within a period of three months, killing four workers and injuring dozens more. Subsequent investigations blamed dangerous levels of fine dry wood dust that had been left to accumulate in the mills. The agency responsible for worker safety, WorkSafeBC, concluded that the explosions were “preventable” and recommended that regulatory charges be brought against the two companies that owned the mills. But BC government lawyers said no; they concluded that the evidence had been improperly collected, and that the companies could claim sue diligence. 16x9’s “Deadly Mills” examines the aftershock and the unanswered questions. glbn.ca/CtrcD
