In the Fall I was watching people across the street, raking - TopicsExpress

In the Fall I was watching people across the street, raking leaves, and it made me think, why would you do that? Trees make their own leaves, so that those leaves can feed them, and they use that food to make more leaves. When it gets cold and the days shorten, the leaves drop and make mulch on the ground that will wait and fertilize the tree in the coming Spring. But people come and rake up all the leaves and carry them away. Then, come Spring, they have to buy fertilizer from someone else to make those trees grow new healthy leaves, when they had that fertilizer all along. Why didn’t they just leave that fertilizer that the Tree made for itself unraked under its own shelter? Why send leaves away, and then pay someone else so that we can make new leaves? It occurred to me, we do the same thing with our economy. Our workers make money, then that money gets trucked away through the cash registers of Walmart to foreign places, and the produce of our community leaves our community. Then we have to borrow money from these foreign places to make ends meet the next year. If those workers had spent their money locally, the local merchants would have reinvested in their own community, and we wouldn’t need to refertilize our community with foreign loans. Our wages make the mulch we use to grow our community. And if we think of our country as being like a tree, and let that tree nurture itself, then that tree will flower and bear fruit for everybody who lives under the shelter of that tree. Nature barters. Why shouldn’t we? Invest in your own community, and keep your wages and your neighbors close. Isn’t it time to hunker down and let our economic regrow itself, by letting our communities refertilize themselves? It’s all a matter of proper mulching. The barter inherent in Nature. That’s how the Tree of Liberty grows. Think about it. When did a forest ever need fertilizer? America is always ready for a new Spring.
