In the Gettysburg Address, then US President Abraham Lincoln said, Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth. But if the Government becomes of the rich, by the rich, for the rich, it loses its normal qualities. Hike in railway fare by 14.2%, freight charges by 6.5% are two of those decision that I highly condemn. Whats the reason behind almost DOUBLING the monthly tickets? One thing to remember, when our honourable Chief Minister was the Union Railway Minister, there was not a single hike in the fare. The new Govt.s policy will just put huge burden on the middle, lower-middle and lower economic classes of our country. Union Railway ministry should understand that, its not the millionaires, who travel by local trains or avail the monthly tickets. And hike in freight charges will add to the hike in the price of essential commodities, which are delivered from one place to another by train. Subsequently all these will add to the inflation, which is already an issue of concern for the Indian Economy. In the name of so called reforms, its injustice to the peoples mandate. This Govt. is only following the footsteps of its predecessor.
