In the PREMIER DIVISION this week WILNECOTE RED LION saw their good start to the new season come undone as they travelled out to play a very strong APPLEBY MAGNA side who dominated the first half to go in leading 5-0 at the break . A change in formation for Red Lion during the second half seem to stem the tide as Appleby managed only one goal late on to finish the game more than worthy 6-0 winners . Steve HART scoring four and ABBOTT and TURNER with the others ….. After last weeks misery of being dumped out the cup by lower league opposition AUSTREY RANGERS got back to winning ways defeating STUDIO 3-0 . Austrey controlled the game from start to finish with Studio only having one shot on goal all game . Zac Lewis making his debut for Austrey against his old club produced a man of the match performance , with goals from Marc SHUTT , Simeon SMITH and Jono DURHAM sealing the win ….. DIVISION 1 saw TAMWORTH ARMS GALACTICOS yet again dish out another double figure thumping , this week to POLESWORTH ROYAL OAK winning by the small margin of 11-1 …. DIVISION 2 saw REAL BELGRAVE carry on from last weeks fine performance , improving once again , with a few more players back they started the game on top , and within ten minutes Martyn WALKER found the net with a smart finish after beating three DRAYTON BASSETT players . Then Leigh SCOTT broke free and slotted past the Bassett keeper for it to roll and hit the post and just about roll in for 2-0 . The best goal of the game came from Steve FRANCIS scoring with a absolute screamer from twenty five yards out leaving the keeper no chance . The second half saw Belgrave keep pushing and sub Dave HARTLEY slotted home with ease after a smart move . HARTLEY was on the score sheet again ten minutes later with a tricky finish beating the Bassett keeper at his near post . Real Belgrave started to tire and got a few injuries and conceded two late goals , one of which was a class OG from Gareth Curles Roberts and the other scored by Bassetts CLARK for Real Belgrave to finish 5-2 winners ….. COTTAGE FARM RANGERS and FAZELEY TOWN played out a 1-1 draw sharing the points After last week’s performance in the cup , Cottage Farm were full of enthusiasm ahead of the visit from Fazeley . With a number of new signings and also showing off their new kit for the first time in front of a capacity Belgrave crowd , Cottage Farm were wishing the season had started a few weeks later for their much improved squad . The first half was an even contest with Fazeley having a number of shots from distance well saved whilst at the other end Cottage Farm hit a couple of one on ones wide and failed to make the final ball count . With the game finely poised 0-0 at half time , the second half continued in the same fashion with both sides giving a good account of themselves but once again creating very little in the way of clear cut chances . However , when Cottage Farm failed to clear the ball , a neat interchange of passes from the Fazeley front pairing was coolly finished by EASTHOPE past the on-rushing keeper . Cottage Farm were then reduced to ten men after a crunching challenge left them with an injury and having used all three permitted substitutes had no option but to continue a man down . Both sides continued to push forwards with end to end counter attacking football and Cottage Farm were rewarded for their resilience when Louis SANDS was bundled over in the box . Tom Dobsons penalty was well saved by the keeper but Louis SANDS was first to the ball and smashed in the rebound to make things all square . The remaining ten minutes continued to be played at a fast pace with each side pushing for the winner but both defended well with the game ending in a fair 1-1 draw .... In a very heated affair between MEASHAM and POST FC it was Post who got off to a flyer before the minute mark after a neat back heal from Ryan Tedds in the box set up Gaz SHELDON who easily tucked the ball in the corner from ten yards . It soon became 2-0 when from a corner the ball flew in , bounced off a few players around the Measham box and eventually fell to Ryan TEDDS who slotted home for Post . Measham pulled one back soon after when a slight defensive error let in the Measham striker to lash the ball past the post keeper . From the restart Post continued to press and attack and were soon rewarded with their third goal with a simple tap in for Nathan BROOKS after a fumble from the Measham keeper fell to his feet for him to round and slot in . Post then had to have shake up as there rock at the back Gaz SHELDON twisted his knee and for a moment this seemed to affect them as they adjusted to the change conceding a dubious penalty which was converted by the Measham striker to pull them back to 3-2 . As soon as Measham thought they were back in it , Post scored there fourth with some good work from Carl Tedds , he unleashed a shot which was equally saved by the keeper but fell lovely for M.O.M Jack JOHNSON to hit a sweet left footed volley into the goal for a half time 4-2 lead for a lively and energetic Post . The second half became even more heated as the first with some rash challenges going un-carded from the visitors as they tried to dent Posts flow and fluidity with no avail as they conceded a fifth with a cushioned header from stand in right back Dave COSTELLO . Post then made a couple of changes bringing off an injured Scott Killick and a tired Matty Weddell switching it to 4-4-2 and bringing on Josh Simpson and there own Darren Anderton Ant THOMAS with the latter not taking long to put his injuries aside and make it 6-2 with a lucky chip over the keeper from the penalty spot . After a bizarre stoppage the game continued and Post were caught sleeping as they gave away a silly penalty after a swipe at the Measham striker that saw him hitting his hatrick and Meashams third making it 6-3 . Post continued to graft there socks off with every player putting in the effort and still werent finished as they hit seventh heaven not long from the end with a cross being converted by Nathan BROOKS with a header scoring his second and the final goal of the game giving Post a well deserved 7-3 victory and they dominated once again showing they are a side to be taken seriously for silverwear this season........... DIVISION 3 saw ST JOHNS and WARTON CLUB shared the points in a 2-2 draw . In a lively hard fought game between two teams wanting to play football it was St Johns who made the early chances and almost took the lead when Corey Richardson curled a lovely shot that struck thepost and rebounded out of play . St Johns did take the lead half way through the first half when a move down the left ended with Harley BAKER showing great ball control inside the box to take a Warton defender on and drill the ball into the corner of the net . St Johns quickly made it 2-0 with a sharp flowing move that released Corey RICHARDSON to slot home from inside the box . Warton started to play some nice passing football without really creating many chances but on the stroke of half time a break from the home side resulted in a free kick on the edge of the box and from a scramble inside the box the ball was forced in from close range by REYNER to make it 2-1 at half time . Warton came out strong in the second half playing some nice controlled football without creating any clear cut chances . St Johns were playing on the break now and nearly made it 3-1 when Corey Richardson burst into the box and chose to pass when a shot looked the best option . Warton continued to press looking for an equaliser and it came in a strange manner direct from a Danny SMITH corner that eluded everyone and ended up in the net . Both teams then pressed for the winner but a draw was probably a fair result for two evenly matched teams .... SWIFTS defeated COTON ARMS 3-0 with three first half goals that killed the game and flattered them slightly as Coton Arms had their fair share of chances but didnt take advantage of them when they came ….. DIVISION 4 and HURLEY KINGS continue their fine league form with an impressive 4-0 win away to NEWTON ALLIANCE . Hurley didnt start too well almost conceding on several occasions , but turned the game by catching Newton on the back foot when Danny Lander set up Karl CURRAN to finish first time . Hurley then went at it again when Karl CURRAN broke through the Newton defence to slot home for his second with another assist from Danny Lander . Hurley then scored a third before half time through a persistent run from Adam EATWELL who gobbled up his chance and finished well . Hurley after being under some constant pressure in the second half then finished the game with a superb chip from Danny LANDER to not only seal a superb game from him but to also start pushing Hurley up towards that top spot in the league where they want to be ….. TWO GATES UNITED RESERVES just cant stop scoring goals and this week dished out another warning sign to all other sides in the league that they mean business as they defeated POLESWORTH SPORTS & SOCIAL 12-1 . CARDUS himself cannot seem to stop scoring and this week bagged FIVE whilst COLES scored four and WORRELL , SENESE and JONES got the others . It was a hard fought game for Polesworth with Two Gates being the top of the league and it showed throughout the match . The only goal scored by Polesworth was scored by Adam BECKETT with a quality finish into the top corner of the net . Polesworth had a few more chances to get some goals back but it wasnt to be and Two Gates ran out easy winners in the end …. E.S GEORGE MEMORIAL CUP action took centre stage this weekend and Division 3s EDINGALE SWIFTS met DYNAMO SPORTS BAR from the league below . Edingale started poorly and after creating pretty much nothing all first half apart from a John Cooke header from a corner which bounced over , they were lucky to only be losing 1-0 at the break as Dynamos Sean HARTMAN had given his side the lead . The half time break seen the introduction of Edingales Kieran Cherrie and this changed the game . Swifts suddenly had more of an attacking threat and found themselves level when CHERRIE beat a defender and a delicate left foot chip beat the keeper . The game wasnt level for long as Dynamo scored after a run down the left and cross was superbly volleyed home by Richard VENABLES . As the clock went into the final few minutes Edingale were throwing all they had at Dynamo and were rewarded when a cross into the box looped into the air and Michael JAVENS flicked a header over the keeper and this took the game to extra time . Edingale flew out the traps in the first half of extra time and with John Cooke winning everything in midfield it meant the Swifts were camped in the opposition half . CHERRIE jinked into the box and on his right foot drilled a low strike past the keeper and made it 3-2 and he then made it a perfect hat trick when he headed home from ten yards from a great cross . This should have been game over but Dynamo Sportsbar had other ideas as a change in tactics saw Lewis TARPEY the centre back moved upfront and win a penalty after taking the ball around and past four Swifts players before being brought down , scoring the penalty himself . Tails up Sports Bar went all or nothing and were rewarded themselves when Ben HARTMAN ran through to make it 4-4 and a dramatic game was going to end all square and be decided by penalties . The penalty shoot out was going all Edingales way with a miss and two good Danny Bowles saves that gave Tom Insley the chance to win it , however his effort went over . The win was soon secured as Cherrie stepped up to slot home and send the Swifts into the next round .... An all Premier tie saw AFC BOLEHALL bow out at the hands of TWO GATES UNITED who came out on top like they did nearly a month ago in the league . The previous meeting only had one goal scored in it , however this time there was a goal fest with Bolehall taking the lead in the first half through Aaron THOMPSON , a cross from Ben Watson finding him as he headed in to make it 1-0 . A long ball over the top got Two Gates back into it as their striker ran through and made it 1-1 . Two Gates went on to score another three goals as they looked to be cruising through as Bolehall argued amongst themselves in the second half . However Dean Johnson , on his first start , gave Tim PRESCOTT an open net to bag his first goal of the season , and then Two Gates began to get nervous and looked to run down the clock when Dean JOHNSON then scored himself to make it 4-3 . However Two Gates managed to get a fifth before the end from a narrow angle for the game to finish 5-3 . Ian INSTONE scoring two of Two Gates goals along with Kieran McCALL , Adam SHIMELD and Henry HOLLAND . These two sides meet again in the league in their next fixture ….. Again two sides from the same Division went head to head as FC BONDS met DUG OUT . Bonds took the lead after good work from Adrian Windfield saw him put Adam DARBY through on goal and he made no mistake in taking the ball around the keeper and rolling the ball into the empty net . It was rough justice for Dug Out who had two great chances themselves to open the scoring before this happened but it was soon 2-0 after Adam Darby put a ball through to Ant BAKER who hit it first time from ten yards into the bottom corner . Bonds then took their foot of the gas and Dug Out made Bonds pay as they scored two quick goals themselves to make it 2-2 . A FALLETTA header and a CHESHIRE thunderbolt bringing the game all square . There was chances for both teams to win the game both in normal time and extra time but it ended up going to penalties . It was Bonds who won 4-2 on penalties thanks mainly to their keeper saving two of Dug Outs efforts … Division 3s GATE INN met MAD DOG TATTOO from the league above and Mad Dog Tattoo were never in any danger of losing this game as they took an early lead through Dave GADSBY and settled into their rhythm and created chance after chance after chance with the woodwork and the Gate keeper saving Gate from shipping plenty of goals. It was all one way traffic as it became a training match for Mad Dog Tattoo who were camped in the Gate Half the whole of the first half , but all they had to show for their dominance was a 3-0 lead as GADSBY added to more to his account for the morning . Mad Dog were punished for keeping to many bodies forward in the last few minutes of the half as eventually Gate Inn managed to get out their own half after a long punt up field by the keeper saw Chris MURRAY run through unchallenged to easily beat the Mad Dog keeper and it was 3-1 at the break . The second half was exactly the same as the first and how Mad Dog never went on to rack up a cricket score was quite unbelievable but again Gate Inn had their keeper to thank for this as he pulled off save after save after save as he produced a quality one man show to keep the score respectable for his side . Mad Dog Tattoo finished 5-3 winners as GADSBY scored a further two and Gate scored the goal of the game after a superb free kick from thirty yards out by MURRAY curled around the wall and into the top corner , again Gate were gifted a third in the final few minutes after a goalkeeping howler gifted MURRAY his hatrick ... DIVISION 1s HURLEY UNITED only just squeezed into the next round as they beat Division 4s GLASCOTE SWIFTS by a single goal 1-0 thanks to SAVAGE … Premier Division ROYAL OAK KINGSBURY met Division 4 minnows MERCIAN and both teams knew it was only going to end one way as Royal Oak dominated from the start as expected scoring three sloppy goals on Mercians behalf in first twenty minutes . Mercian fought back with a fine goal from HAWKINS and then put a cat amongst the pigeons by scoring again through Scott PARRIS . The joy was short lived though as Royal Oak then scored again making it 4-2 at the break . Mercian should have come out fighting in the second half but didnt as every through ball they played was met with the linesmans flag which seemed to be just held in the air for ninety minutes and heads went down and frustration kicked in and Oak just played them off the park with some outstanding football and finishing , firing another six in second half beating Mercian 10-2 ….. Division 2s ONE STOP SUPPLEMENTS defeated VAULTS from the league above but only after extra time . A first half where both sides were feeling each other out gave up few clear cut chances , the best falling to Supplements Ellis who controlled a great cut back from L. Rowley on the twenty minute mark but his neat control and shot was blocked by the defender . Winger Casey was wasteful not long before halftime after hassling a defender into a mistake by the corner flag before shooting wildly rather than squaring the ball across the area for his better placed team mates . Controversy reigned at the start of the second period as a neat move saw Newbold race through before being stopped a clear yard outside of the box by Supplements defender Walker , before the referee pointed to the spot , despite players on both sides appearing to argue that the infringement happened outside . The penalty was duly despatched by Greg DUDLEY despite a great effort by One Stop keeper Allen to keep it out . This just forced One Stop into action and wave after wave of attacks ended with various efforts flying just wide or being dealt with by the Vaults keeper Price who was showing good agility . A quite incredible save by Allen fifteen minutes into the second half kept Supplements in the game when he somehow tipped a pile driver over the bar , and almost immediately at the other end , a goalmouth scramble ended with L. ROWLEY smashing the ball high into the net from close range to level the scores up . There looked only one possible winner , and despite numerous more close calls , the biggest chance fell with the last kick when the clearly shattered Ellis who had worked so hard all morning , raced clear of the high back line , before drawing the keeper and somehow taking too long to get his shot off , and the chance was lost . Extra time arrived and the game continued to flow with One Stop clearly looking the more likely , the introduction of Shirley and Roberts for One Stop added injected and pace into wide areas and caused Vaults a threat every single time they broke . Captain S. Rowley shot narrowly wide from a cut back by Francis that he tried to steer into the corner , before Shirley saw his superb effort brilliantly saved by Vaults keeper Price in a game that seemed to be heading to penalties . Supplements edged ahead for the first time mid way through the second period of extra time , another goalmouth scramble ended with ROBERTS smashing in from almost on the goal-line , before almost immediately , hesitancy and slow closing down allowed a fine strike by NEWBOLD from the edge of the box to creep into the bottom corner after taking a strange bounce in front of keeper Allen . Immediately from the kick off , a great show of pace and skill from Shirley wide left saw him destroy the Vaults full back , and pull the ball perfectly into the path of Onrushing Ellis who somehow skied his shot over from six yards . The substitute seemed on a one man mission to win the game for Supplements , and almost immediately a break down the right by Roberts saw his inch perfect ball through to Haddock who steadied himself and cut the ball back perfectly for the late arriving SHIRLEY who finished brilliantly from ten yards with a first time finish into the far bottom corner . The best goal of the game was saved until last , when a punt up field was poorly dealt with by the Vaults keeper , whose ball put the fullback in trouble , and HADDOCK duly obliged to intercept and strike a sixty yarder sailing over the keepers head and into the unguarded goal to complete another brilliant comeback and continue Supplements 100% record start to the season ….. Division 3’s WILNECOTE QUEENS HEAD unbeaten run continued this week as they progressed to the next round via a heavy 5-0 defeat over the PROGRESSIVE of Division 1 . Both teams started the game missing regular players , and neither team could dominate in the initial stages as the game ebbed and flowed . However Queens managed to put pressure on the Pro’s defence mid-way through the first half , where Pro’s central defender got caught on the ball allowing Queens to attack unchallenged as Smith laid the ball into ONIONS who ran through on goal and slotted past the keeper to put the Queens 1-0 up . The game went end to end but no clear chances were created until good pressure from Savory caused havoc at the back for Pro , whereby the Pro defender chopped Savory down inside the box and Horton stepped up for Queens but hit the post with the spot-kick and the half came to a close not long after . The second half started brightly for Queens as they began to pass the ball better and cause problems for Pro when counter-attacking . This worked well when after Pro lost possession in the Queens half , Greenwood managed to get into the Pro box and with a deft touch gave ONIONS his chance of a second which he duly took . Pro could not find their own rhythm and chances became few and far between as the game was now going in Queens favour . Progressive began to try and upset the play with some tough challenges but this did not work in their favour as a Pro defender got himself booked twice in the space of five minutes and rightly was given his marching orders . The latter for a nasty challenge on Onions who couldn’t continue and was substituted . Queens then used the extra man to their advantage carving out chances on each attack . Substitute Richmond squaring to SAVORY when one on one with the keeper to make it 3-0 . Followed by a run down the right flank by DAVIS who got into the box and drove a shot past the keeper . Then before the whistle blew , Savory found GARVIN at the back post who finished neatly to make the final score 5-0 to Queens Head ….. FC WHITE LION of Division 3 progressed at the expense of STONYDELPH from the league below winning 4-0 . An under strength Stonydelph put up a good fight early on although White Lion were creating the better chances , as time went on White Lion began to controll the game pilling on the pressure but there finishing left a lot to be desired as well as David Hewins pulling off some good saves in the Stonydelph goal on several occasions with the White Lion forwards bearing down on goal . Stonydelph thought they had grabbed the lead twenty minutes into the first half on the counter attack when Guy Chambers fired a shot low and hard into the bottom corner after a nice lay off from Richard Mattison but the linesmans flag was up for offside . With ten minutes remaining in the first half White Lion took the lead from a corner when the White Lion striker volleyed home from twelve yards out with little pressure from the Stonydelph defence . Just five minutes later and Stonydelph were forced into an early change when centre half Daniel Hathaway limped off leading to a shuffle around in the Stonydelph defence , this seemed to unsettle Stonydelph and they conceded two sloppy goals in quick succession , the first coming from a long ball over the top saw the White Lion striker control the ball and half volley it into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area , Lion scored again soon after when the Stonydelph defence seemed to completely switch off allowing three White Lion players to run through on goal and pass the ball around the Stonydelph keeper and into an empty net to go in 3-0 at half . White Lion started the second half how they ended the first forcing another good save from David Hewins in the Stonydelph goal when he tipped a shot from the edge of the area onto the crossbar and over . Again Stonydelph looked to catch White Lion on the counter attack and nearly scored when a ball into the box from the left hand side fell to Adam Leavold inside the penalty area with space who took a touch and fired at goal but an on rushing defender deflected the ball over the bar when a goal seemed certain . White Lion continued to control the game still looking for another goal and eventually found it with fifteen minutes remaining when some good footwork down the left hand side from their winger beating two players in the process and laying the ball off to his teammate whos deflected shot found the net . Soon after White Lion nearly scored again when they hit the crossbar from a cross come shot from the right that had David Hewins back-pedalling but the ball bounced over for a goal kick . Stonydelph again thought they had scored when Richard Mattison fired a shot against the keeper and the ball fell to the feet of Sam Wright who fired the ball into the empty net only to see the goal ruled out again for offside . Minutes later and Stonydelph had another good chance after good play from Perry Fitzmaurice in the middle of the park , he played a long ball forward and found the feet of Adam Leavold inside the area whos first time lay off to Richard Mattison was volleyed straight at the keeper for an easy save . With the game becoming stretched both teams continued to push for a goal but chances were few and far between and the game ended 4-0 to White Lion ….. OFFICE of Division 2 had no problems in the dispatch of Division 4s WILNECOTE PRINCE for their place in the next round . The Office FC passed the ball well in the first twenty minutes and created a number of chances that were squandered . It was a defensive mix up that led to Wilnecotes first opening and Gaz SPARKS finished well for them to take a surprise lead. Just before half time it looked as though Office were going to have a bad day in front goal , but they scored two goals in quick succession from Ryan ELLIS and James ROOKER .. The second half saw Office FC totally dominate with wave after wave of attacks . Many chances went begging but five goals were scored with James ROOKER slotting home his second and JT scoring four which included a header , left foot and two right foot finishes ….. ELLISION ROSE BOWL CUP saw Premier Division giants WOOD END SPORTS take on Division 4s ANKERSIDE RANGERS and their was only ever going to be one winner in this fixture as Wood End cruised to an 11-0 victory … Two goals each from R. WARREN and the , at times un-playable CHETWYN and a late goal and contender for goal of the season saw SNARESTONE GLOBE safely through as they defeated SPORTS BAR ATHLETIC 5-1 ….. LEAGUE CHALLENGE TROPHY saw MIDLAND UNITY book their place in the next round with a 5-1 win over FAZELEY TOWN RESERVES . Unity scored almost straight away with a swift counter attack , OReilly playing in BERRY , who hit the ball towards the near post , the keeper hands tipping it onto the post and in . Unity drove on for a second and in truth were hammering Fazeleys backline , Berry and OReilly missing chances , but BERRY claimed his second firing a misplaced pass from a defender into the roof of the net . Fazeley pulled one back in a rare offensive move , a miscommunication between defender and keeper allowed a strike at goal with Silvester unfortunately hitting into his own goal trying to block the shot . Unity continued their attacking threat , plenty of easy chances blasted high and wide or straight at the keeper until OReilly squared to EDWARDS who rifled home in the box . More chances went Unitys way until EDWARDS got his second and Unitys fourth , latching onto Darkes through ball and easily beating the keeper . The second half and Unity had at least five guilt edged chances , all that were harder not to score , but they did just that until HIGGS , nailed in a sweet volley from inside the box to make it 5-1 . Unity played out the rest of the game doing what they did all morning . Applying massive pressure and creating chance after chance , but to no avail …..
