In the Royal Dutch police Dog Trials they have an exercise known as the object guard. The dog must protect the property but is not allowed to bite unless the decoy actually tries to take object. If the decoy drops the object then the dog must release him and go back to guarding it. The decoy can take points away from the dog by getting him to bite early. This is a pretty good example of the exercise.
