In the case of the illuminated, all the nerves suck up fine elements from the blood and the tissue to convert them into psychic energy of a most powerful nature. This is known as the prana flowing through sushumna. In the normal man, the nerves which produce the psychic energy that feeds the brain are mainly the nerves which directly reach the brain. In the case of the awakened, now, the pairs of nerves that line the spinal cord, especially those which feed the muscular system of the body, also come into play and we always perceive this flow of prana right from the thumb or the tip of the finger through all the muscles of the body, going into the head in a never-ending stream of radiation which enhances consciousness to a tremendous degree. So, it is for this reason that special instructions have been given on the diet and the life of the yogis who aroused the Kundalini. They all became easily explainable and understandable. Investigation has to be done into the phenomenon to understand. One more point is that there must occur a change in the blood stream which can be measured by science provided they know a little more about bioplasma or psychic energy. At the present moment, science is not aware how psychic energy is produced. What is the link between the solid flesh and blood and the nerve energy -- the energy which feeds the nerves. With the phenomenon of Kundalini, this measurement becomes much easier than it is now because in the case of the illuminated individual, all the nerves come into play and they actually suck vital energy from all parts of the body to feed the brain. That is the reason why, in the case of bodies which are not fully attuned, normally, trance conditions supervene. This is also recorded of most of the mystics, that their breathing diminishes, that their heart action becomes very slow. The body becomes cold and they are insensitive to the outer world. The reason is that all the bioenergy, all the psychic energy, is now sucked by the nerves and sent to the brain. In the case of the one who has perfected himself, who has by attention to his diet and his behavior and his physical health attuned the nervous system to the inflow of this energy, then the condition can become perennial, without his losing consciousness. For instance, for such a man, sitting before you and talking and laughing and joking and eating, doing all the actions of the world will be possible, while a tremendous amount of energy, drawn from all parts of the body, goes to the brain to maintain consciousness in the expanded state. Most of you are aware of the fact that by far the larger number of geniuses, born in the West during the past many hundred years, have been eccentric, mentally aberrant or totally insane. (laughter) In fact, Lombroso has tried to prove that genius is a form of insanity and even the latest writers on the subject of genius repeat that the incidence of insanity among genius is so large that it is not possible to explain it except by the assertion that in some way genius is prone to madness. Do you know why it is? Because the modern world has no knowledge of what was known to the ancient Indian savants more than two thousand years ago, that one in whom Kundalini is partially or wholly awake must live a certain way of life, must have a certain diet, and must be regular in his conduct and also more moderate in his procreative activity than the normal human beings. The reason why there is a greater incidence of madness among genius is the same as why Hatha Yoga also is liable to cause madness. It is the same activity of the Serpent Power in a system which is not disciplined, which does not know the norms of this activity in the body. With the knowledge of Kundalini that we are giving out, I am certain that the men of genius and the children of high talent born on earth will know the life they have to lead.
