In the development of the Esther Drummond character she originally had the name Esther Katusi. It looks like from the name Katusi, Esther was originally developed as an African-American character. However that changed when the very non-Afirican-American Alexa Havins was cast as Esther and also why she had a change of surname from Katusi to Drummond. The name Katusi still got used on Miracle Day in Escape to L.A. with Bisme Katusi played by Juanita Jennings and Russell T Davies had earlier used the name as a British character Winston Katusi, played by Allister Bain, who was a friend of Wilf in the David Tennant swansong The End of Time.
