In the early hours of saturday, probably when majority of us were still in bed, a US Navy SEALs team approached Barawe by speedboat. They swam ashore and it was the beginning of a capture operation of a high value target of Al shabaab- the terrorist group responsible for the attack on an upscale mall in Nairobi, kenya two weeks ago. Mukhtar Abu Zubeyr lives in a beachside two storey building 240km south of Mogadishu, Somalia where he is surrounded by fighters. The Navy unit encountered a stiffer opposition than expected. After about 20mins of gunfight, their leader aborted the mission when civilian casualties became an increasing concern. No US unit was killed but 7 Al shabaab fighters lost their lives. Some hours later in the city of Tripoli, Libya, an Al Qaida leader was parking his car in front of his house after early morning prayers when he was encircled by a convoy of three cars. A team of US DELTA commandoes jumped out and smashed his car window. He was grabbed before he could reach his gun. They dragged him inside one of the cars and drove away. Abdul Ahmed Al Ruqai is presently held in a secure position outside libya. He was responsible for the US embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi that killed about 220 people in 1998.
