In the event that you do not have a weather plan in place for yourself or your family, I am going to list a few common sense things that you can use as a guideline just in case you can use them. QUESTION: DO YOU LIVE IN A STURDY STRUCTURE? ANSWER: If you do not live in a sturdy, site built home with a solid foundation, then you need to have a safe alternative place to go in the event your area is placed under a warning. Trailers and older homes without a basement do not fair well at all against winds in excess of 100+ mph. Places you can seek as a shelter can be a friend or relatives home, a local church, or a business that does not have a large glass façade or windows all around. And, a good underground storm shelter works as well. QUESTION: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS I SHOULD HAVE ON HAND IN CASE OF A SEVERE WEATHER EVENT? ANSWER: You should have as a minimum: Water bottles, some food, batteries for radios and flash lights, NOAA WEATHER RADIO, A blanket (used to cover up in case you are in a building that is hit by winds or tornado, and a fully charged cell phone in case you have to call for help. QUESTION: WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY FAMILY IS NOT ALL IN THE SAME PLACE WHEN AN EVENT HAPPENS? ANSWER: Make sure that if you get separated, that you have designated a place to meet back up in case the worst happens, and at least a person other than yourself that they can call as soon as possible to let them know where they are at and their status. Just a few minutes to go over these things can save yourself and your loved ones a lot of pain, worry, and concern. If you have any questions or want some more help with this or any other weather preparedness questions, please message me and I will do whatever I can to help you out. K. Golden
