In the fight against climate change, there would be probably 3 major historic moments. In hierarchy, first would be the emission reduction binding treaty to be forged 2015, second would be the operationalisation of the Green Climate Fund and third would be the non binding Kyoto Protocol which already expired. It makes me proud as a Filipino having been given the chance to steward the commencement of the GCF operations so that it could cushion and protect the poor from its impacts and help developing countries in contributing to low emission, climate-resilient development pathways. Together with my German co-chair, it was my honour as a Filipino and as a local government official to preside over this historic moment, to be in the drivers seat in making history, in making the world safe for children. In this fight, the community of nations have come together and we received critical and timely interventions from civil society organisations which enabled the process to move forward towards its competion. We are also challenged by the souls of our brethren who suffered the climate wrath of Yolanda and Reming and this has compelled us towards a transformative pathways of growth. May God bless us in this noble undertaking.
