In the icon of Divine Ascent made by Saint John of Sinai, the mystic saint of the East shows not laymen but clergies made up of priests and Bishops climbing the ladder toward Christ. Some as they went up were pulled down by the demons while others continue to progress towards the crown of glory in Christ. The icon teaches us laymen that the shepherds of our souls be it priest or Bishop are the ones that are directly answerable to God for the actions taken by their flock. The Cebuano priest must have had the same feeling of responsibility and dilemma since the soul of the child upon baptism is directly under his mandated duty as an ordained man of God and vicar of Christ. Whether his act of baptism is omission or commission for such a candidate from an unwed parent is beyond my poor comprehension. But a recent event shows Pope Francis baptises a child of an unwed couples inside the Vaticans Sistine Chapel and here is the link.[ facebook/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdailymail.co.uk%2Fnews%2Farticle-2538097%2FPope-Francis-baptises-baby-unmarried-couple-Sistine-Chapel-Baptism-Of-The-Lord-mass-Vatican.html&h=SAQEpfAmY ]
